An incomplete, worn and very thin post-Medieval silver groat dating from the reign of Edward VI (1547-1553), struck in memory of his father Henry VIII (d. 1547); Posthumous issue, 1547-1551. Initial mark: martlet. Initial mark on reverse: martlet. London (Tower) mint (North 1991: 119, ref: 1871).
Obverse: HENRIC 8[ ]GRA AGL FRA[ ]REX; Crowned bust right
Reverse: POSVI/DEV.A/DIVTOR/E.MEV. (I have made God my Helper); Long cross fourchée over royal shield
Diameter: 25.3mm; thickness: 0.41mm. Weight: 2.01g. DA=12:9.
