An incomplete medieval silver coin; a broken penny possibly of Edward IV (1461 - 1483), probably York mint (with a quatrefoil at the centre of the reverse cross). There is possibly a faint annulet to the left of the crown. It is 15.4mm in diameter and 0.4mm thick. It weighs 0.54g. North number 1592 or 1642 possibly.

A silver hammered coin dating from the late Medieval period: a penny of Edward IV (1461-1470, and 1471-1483). Minted at York (episcopal) for Archbishop George Neville (1464-76). Either Type X1/X2, North 1599; or Type XII2, North 1645; only the tail of the initial mark, a cross fitchee or lis, is visible; letter G to the left of bust, key to right. It is 15.2mm in diameter and 0.4mm thick. It weighs 0.61g.

The obverse bears the right hand side of the king's head facing with a key to the right of the neck, no mark on the breast and the inscription EDWARD.The reverse inscription reads CIVI/[TAS/EBO]/RACI which indicates the mint was Eboraci (York). The reverse is very worn and the long cross and pellets have largely been rubbed away, and it is not possible to distinguish whether the cross has a quatrefoil in the centre as would be expected.
