An incomplete medieval silver penny of Edward III dating to AD 1369-1377. The coin is missing a notch from the top edge, representing about 10% of the total material. Obverse is worn but depicts a crowned bust facing with a cross on the breast. CIVITAS EBORACI reverse depicting a long cross with three pellets in each quarter and a quatrefoil in the centre. Mint of York. Cf North, JJ, 1991, English Hammered Coinage, Vol 2, p 59, no 1292.

Mint of York (episcopal), so issed by the archbishop. 0.96g. Both inscriptions are difficult to read. Probably Spink 1613 and North 1228, issued by Archbishop Thoresby in the Transitional treaty period, 1361-1363 AD.
