An incomplete Medieval silver penny of Edward III (1327-1377), minted at London. Initial mark: missing. Possibly Series D, 1352-1353 (North 1991: 50, ref: 1156). Obverse: [EDWARD]VS REX A[NGL(I)] (annulet stops), [Crowned bust facing with a bifoliate crown]. Reverse: CIVI/[TAS/LON/]DON (unbarred N), Long cross dividing the inscription with three pellets in each quadrant, an annulet in each quadrant. Length: 15.5mm; width: 11.0mm. Weight: 0.44g. DA=12:5-6. North, J. J. 1991. English Hammered Coinage, Volume II, Edward I to Charles II, 1272-1662. Spink & Son, London.

Carl Savage comments, '[the coin is] probably Series G but is too worn to be any more accurate than that. There is ghosting on the obverse from the reverse as some of the reverse pellets are showing through on the obverse'.

Silver penny of Edward III (1327-1377), Fourth Coinage (1351-1377), Treaty Series (1363-1369), initial mark cross pattee with quatrefoil before ED in the obverse legend, but bottom half of coin too worn to see quatrefoil on breast or serifed 'X' in legend, but one pellet stop visible, York Archiepiscopal mint under Archbishop Thoresby with quatrefoil in centre of reverse cross, Spink 1631. Wren (1995) lists this on page 97 as York Type 2.

There is also a pellet in the reverse legend between TA.S. Spink 1606. Wren (1995) describes this series on page 93, Series G, Type d.

Incomplete silver long cross penny of Edward III (1327-1377), First Coinage (1327-1343), Class 15d (1327-43), issued from 1338 in Reading mint, crown with upright bifoliate side fleurs. The surviving letters on the obverse read +EDWAR and on the reverse read VIL/LAR/A but the scallop shell is in the last quarter which should read NGY in the legend, and not in the first quarter with VIL as noted by Withers (2006) on pages 19 and 42-43.
