A pair of finds composed of a long cross penny and a decorative silver mount of probable Medieval date (AD 1344-1400).The finder suggests that the coin was found within the silver mount.
The coin is heavily clipped and abraded. Most probably a coin of Edward III spanning the Florin, Transition and Post-treaty coinage (AD 1344-1377). Long cross reverse with quatrefoil and pellet centrally and three pellets in each quadrant. York mint.

A silver hammered Medieval coin; a penny of Edward III. The coin is probably a fourth coinage, pre-treaty issue (1351-61AD), and has saltire stops in the legend. The reverse legend is poor, although it is probably Durham. For examples see North, Vol.2, p.36-41. The coin measures 17.2mm diameter x 0.6mm, weighing 1.12g.
