A complete and slightly worn Medieval silver penny of Edward I (1272-1307), minted at Durham. Class 10cf2, 1306-1307 (North 1991: 32, ref: 1041). Obverse: (cross moline) EDWAR ANGL DNS hYB; Crowned bust facing with a bifoliate crown and wedged drapery. Reverse: CIVI/TAS/DVR/EME; Long cross dividing the inscription with three pellets in each quadrant. Diameter: 18.6mm. Weight: 1.18g. DA=12:3. Chance surface find during metal detecting. Complete silver long-cross halfpenny of Edward I, Class 10, London mint, dating to 1301 - 1310 AD. The obverse of the coin is very worn and the detail of the forward-facing bust has been lost. It is possible to make out a bifoliate crown, however, and the inscription [+ E D] W A R R A N G L D []. The edges of the coin have been clipped and some of the inscription has been lost. The reverse is a long cross with three pellets clustered in each corner within a circle. The arms of the cross dissect the inscription which reads: L UON/ D O N/ C I V I /T A S.
