Minted either in Canterbury or Chichester. Dimensions: diameter: 17.90 mm; weight: 0.51g.

Silver short-cross penny of John (1199-1216), Class 5b2 (c.1205-1207), moneyer Tomas, Carlisle mint, Mass 1465. The coin has a combination of half of the obverse legend and half of the reverse legend on both the obverse and the reverse, dividing the reverse legend +TOMAS ON CAR by inserting hENRIC from the obverse legend of hENRICVS REX so that both legends now read +TO hENRIC CAR. The coin must have been hit twice, flipping over between the dies before the second striking which was quite a poor one, hence parts of both the obverse and the reverse are visible on both sides of the coin…
