An early-medieval silver penny of Harold I (1035-40) Fleur-de-lis type (North 803; BMC v) dating to 1038-1040, mint: Gloucester, moneyer: probably Ælfsige. Reference: North 1994: 171. Only about half of the coin survives, broken along the line of the horizontal arms of the reverse cross. It appears that this is a break, with quite rough edges, rather than a deliberate cutting of the coin into a halfpenny. Diameter: 18.28 mm Weight: 0.54g Die axis: 12

The name of the moneyer on this coin ends with the letter 'C', though this is not particularly diagnostic as there are at least five known moneyers working at the London mint with this letter as the last of their names.
