Roman copper alloy nummus of unclear emperor, reverse type and mint, 318-402 AD. The coin has a break to one side which appears to be a circular piercing which has broken towards one edge. While pierced Roman coins have been found in both Roman and Anglo Saxon contexts the practice appears more common and 4th century coins are more commonly used in the latter period.
