A very worn and corroded 3rd-century copper-alloy Roman radiate of Quintillus, 'FIDES MILITVM', Rome mint (270 AD; Reece issue period 13; Normanby 1164ff.). It has been pierced for use at a later date at c. 5 o'clock on the obverse and c. 1 o'clock on the reverse. Such adaption, presumably for jewellery, tends to be considered an early-medieval practice although a Roman date cannot be ruled out.
