Roman contemporary copy of silver coin c.AD3rd Century. Coin is a copper alloy base that has been silvered. While the bust is well executed the reverse is quite poor. The obverse is a bust of emperor facing right with radiate crown, legend reads IMP CAES CVIB VOLVSIANO AUG. Volusian (AD251-253) was th the son of Trebonnius Gallus and was elevated to the throne upon the death of his predeccessor Decius. Volusian and his father were murdered in AD253 by mutinous troops. Reverse is standing figure with sceptre, the reverse legend is unreadable. Diameter: 20.14mm, Weight: 2.74g
