A probably contemporary copy of a Roman silver denarius of Caracalla (AD 198-217), dating to c. AD 199-211 (Reece Period 10), PART MAX P M TR P VI (P P) or VI(II), Two captives seated either side of trophy. Prototype Mint probably Rome. This coin is problematic because the obverse type and general reverse type were not used together. Furthermore, the reverse legend is not a normal one, the closest being a PART MAX P M TR P VIIII(?) 'barbarous' piece in the BM (RIC IV, pt 2, p. 263, no. 328). The coin does appear quite base.
