Silver Roman denarius of Mark Anthony dating to the period c.32-31 BC (Reece period 1). LEG III reverse type depicting an Aquila (legionary eagle) between two standards. These coins were struck by Mark Antony for the use of his fleet and legions when he was preparing for the struggle with Octavian, which culminated in the Battle of Actium on the 2nd of September, 31 BC (Grueber, 1970, 526). A silver Roman Republican denarius, possibly dating to c. 180-170 BC. The obverse appears to show the head of Roma, the reverse a biga going right. The inscription in the exergue is unclear, but could be ROMA or another text. Mint of Rome. RRC, pl. XXVI, cf. no. 158 passim. One of the key features of the reverse type are the forward facing hind-legs of the horses - comparison, after Lockdown, with coins in the British Museum collection might narrow down the identification.
