Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A lead object, probably a weight, of unknown date, probably Medieval to Post Medieval, dating to c. AD 1200-1800. The object is sub-spherical in plan with a sub-circular central perforation. This aperture is narrower on the lower, flatter face than the upper face. Dimensions: Diameter: 17.0mm; height: 11.3mm; weight: 17.56g. It is often suggested that objects of this shape are beads or net or line weights for fishing. Small spindle whorls are also a possibility but the central perforation is probably too small on the lower face for such a purpose.
