A Post Medieval silver sixpence of William III (AD 1694-1702). York mint dating to AD 1696 (Spink 3526). Spink (2000: 328). Coin is extremely worn and appears to have been bent into and S-shape. Coins with such a double bend are not uncommon finds but their significance is not fully understood. According to Dr Kevin Leahy such 'Love tokens' were made using coins dating from the time of Elizabeth I (1558-1603) to the reign of Ann (1702-1714) with some Georgian examples.
