A heavily abraded cast copper alloy fragment of uncertain date or function. The object is in 46.8m in length and slightly curved in side profile with a flat sub rectangular cross section. On one side is a 7mm wide prong, probably one of two with the second now lost and a rectangular slot (5mm wide) between. This prong ends in an incomplete spatulate terminal which appears to have been hammered flat. At the base of this prong is a collar or decorative moulding of four ridges to either side. The other end has an old break and there are no markings or other decoration.

An unmarked disc of white metal, possibly silver, 0.85g, 10.8mm in diameter and 1.5mm thick. The size and weight are broadly consistent with an identification as an unstruck coin blank or a small ingot; however the form and weight are not diagnostic as to date. One surface is smooth and unmarked, the other has fracture or fold lines suggesting that the object may have been folded over from flat sheet metal and then hammered. There is some damage and loss to one edge.

County: Wiltshire

A gold object of uncertain date, 13mm in length, comprised of two circular gold wire rings which were originally interlinked and which have been partially melted and fused together by exposure to fire or heat. The internal diameter of the rings is around 8.5mm and they are around 1mm thick with circular cross section. There are breaks in the rings which appear to be from heat damage rather than from the process of manufacture. Possibly a jewellery component, but of uncertain date. Lengh: 13mm; Width: 11.4mm; Weight 1.10g.

Object type: WIRE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of twisted gold wire of uncertain date and function, most likely part of an earring or other item of jewellery. The wire originally had a square cross section and has been twisted along most of its length and bent into an S-shape. There is a short section of around 10mm on the outside of the larger bend which appears not to have been twisted; this may be an original feature relating to the function of the object, perhaps suggestive of a suspension loop.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An assemblage of nine fragments of copper alloy casting waste totalling 83.68g, of potentially Bronze Age date to Post-Medieval date. One fragment is a cone-shaped casting gate with two projecting feeders into a casting mould. This represents the waste metal that would have 'plugged' the pouring funnel of a mould and would have been removed from a finished object. This is similar in form to known Bronze Age examples (LEIC-9D58D5 and ESS-3E54E3); however casting waste is very hard to date in isolation from a finished artefact and so these fragments may well represent more recent a…

Two large fragments of copper alloy casting waste, of uncertain date: A triangular fragment measuring 68.8mm by 57.6mm by 24.4mm, with a wedge-shaped cross sectional profile, a convex smooth side and a rough side suggesting material which has cooled and solidified in the base of a crucible. 282.81g. An irregular fragment measuring 72.3mm by 61.4mm by 17.1mm, with a flat smooth side and a mammillate and convex side, suggesting material which has been poured and solidified on a flat surface. 227.57g.
