A medieval silver coin: a clipped penny possibly of Richard II (AD 1377 - 99), York mint, possibly Type II as described in Purvey (1962) or struck from local dies. Much of the legend is illegible and not enough details survive to be able to be certain of the identification, but the cross saltire before CIVI is clear.
