The axe widens more sharply where the sides meet the cutting edge. The cutting edge is convex. The butt is rectangular in cross-section and the blade's cross-section is a pointed oval shape. A post medieval silver thimble probably dating to the late 18th century. The thimble has a conical head with flat sides, which are now slighly bent out of shape. The sides of the thimble are covered with machine-made indentations, arranged in rows up to the crown. The crown is also decorated with machine made indentations forming a series of circles radiating outwards meeting the sides. Though the object is made of silver it contains no identifiying marks diagnostic of a manufacture date older than the 18th century, and the machine-made indentations indicate a late date for this. …
