A body fragment of a medieval to post-medieval copper alloy cooking vessel with a casting flash prominent on the external surface. The fragment measures 55mm in length, 29.8mm in width, 3.8mm in thickness and weighs 17.68g.
Crudely made cast copper alloy vessels were widely used from c.1200-1800 for serving and cooking. An abraded body sherd from a wheel-made Samian ware Roman vessel. It has a dark orangey-red slip visible on both faces. The convex face has worn decoration consisting of a circular motif (of two concentric ribs) at the centre of which is a possible seated figure. Outside the circular motif are two raised rings. The fabric is pinky-orange in colour, oxidised and sandy with tiny inclusions.
Samian ware was made on the continent (Gaul) during the AD 1st, 2nd and early 3rd centuries.
The sherd measures 66.1mm in length, 56.5mm wide, 6.8mm thick, and weighs 28.61g

A body sherd of a post-medieval tin glazed ceramic shallow vessel, probably a plate or dish, dating to 16th - 17th century. The sherd has a fine sandy fabric and is oxidised throughout with a white core, and has some fine inclusions. The sherd has a greenish-grey glaze on one side, and a blue glaze on the other with some additional decoration in the form of an arc of short yellow arms overarched by a single yellow arcing line.
The sherd measures 26.8mm in length, 20.7mm wide, 5.1mm thick, and weighs 3.11g.

Two post-medieval ceramic body sherd of a probable sugar loaf cone vessel, dating to 17th - 18th century.
1) It has a sandy orange fabric with micaceous inclusions and an unoxidised black core. The concave face is decorated with rough white painted stripes and is unglazed.

Two body sherds of medieval glazed Surrey white ware dating to the 15th century. Both sherds have a greenish glaze on one side where the striations of the wheel thrown manufacture is visible. The fabric of the lozenge shaped fragment is coarse to smooth, yellow in colour with an oxidised yellow core. The sherd has numerous small voided inclusions. The triangular sherd has a finer white fabric with a white oxidised core and some very small inclusions.
The lozenge sherd measures 68.6mm in length, 50.6mm wide, 12.3mm, and weighs 40.24g.

A large, chunky rim sherd of a post-medieval (1600-1700) Border ware ceramic vessel, probably a storage jar. The sherd has two ridges on the exterior surface which retain a green-brown speckled glaze. The sherd has a sandy fabric with sparse quatzite and micaceous inclusions and a greyish white oxidised core. It has an orange underside and grey exterior.
The sherd measures 98.3mm in length, 68.4mm wide, 25.3mm thick, and weighs 202g.

The vessel survives only as a rim sherd with part of the rim (11.2mm in height), the neck (7.6mm in height), and a very small part of the body represented. The sherd has a sandy fabric and is oxidised throughout with with an orange core. The exterior is orange to brown in colour, and the interior is orange. The sherd has regular flint inclusions.
The sherd is 71.4mm in length, 37.9mm wide, 8.6mm thick, and weighs 50.30g. The estimated original rim diameter is c. 100mm.

A rim sherd of a Roman or medieval earthenware vessel. It has a coarse sandy fabric with sparse rounded void inclusions. It is burnt and irregularly fired with a white, orange and grey core. The interior fabric is orange in colour but the rest of the sherd is black as it is is burnt on the outside and over the top of the rim, due probably to over-firing.
The sherd measures 73.2mm in length, 28.6mm wide, 17.4mm thick, and weighs 42.37g. The estimated original rim diameter: 140mm.

A fragment of a Roman greyware, wheel thrown ceramic vessel (probably a storage jar) dating to c. AD 43 - 410.
The vessel survives only as a rim sherd with part of the rim and a very small amount of the neck represented. The sherd has a sandy fabric and is oxidised throughout with light pink core, and orange in colour on either side. The sherd has sparse flint inclusions, with other inclusions consisting of hard red grains, probably stone.
The sherd is 103.1mm in length, 30.7mm wide, 18.8mm thick, with a rim thickness of 22.1mm, and weighs 179.50g. Estimated original rim diameter: 300mm.
