Copper-alloy object of uncertain function, probably a mount of Late Iron Age or Roman date (c. 50 BC - AD 200). Th object has a thick crescent-shaped body, the ends of which extend and curve back on themselves. At the back of the plate is a D-shaped loop with a small knop, rather like the letter n in form. The object has a light-green patina with red-brown staining from iron corrosion across the front face and the top, possibly as a result of depositional factors. The object is 83.11mm in length, 35.97mm in width and 41.32mm in thickness. It weighs 209g.

Copper-alloy and iron object, probably a handle of Roman date (c. AD 43 - 410). The object has a large conical terminal with a long circular-sectioned neck that bulges as it reaches an iron shaft. Only the very start of the iron shaft remains. The object has a rough, green patina. It is 76.0mm in length, 33.86mm in diameter and weighs 202.89g. Until parallels are identified, it is not possible to identify and date this object with complete certainty. However, it was found in an area with a high quantity of Roman material and the copper-alloy and iron construction bears resemblance …

Copper-alloy zoomorphic fragment from an unidentified object of uncertain, possibly early medieval or medieval date (c. AD 700 - 1200). The fragment has a square-sectioned body which narrows to an hourglass-shaped terminal which is probably representative of a beast's head. The bottom face of the body curves outwards, at which point a circular perforation is evident. The top face of the body is decorated with parallel lines that run along it. The hourglass-shaped section is demarcated by four transverse grooves on the top face. The object has a patchy green patina. It is 24.71mm in le…

It is 21.27mm in diameter, 12.13mm in height and 3.46mm in thickness. It weighs 14.30g. Similar examples have been recorded on the database but the precise function of these objects is unknown: YORYM-0DD735, YORYM-231508 and YORYM-2306D4. Copper-alloy fragment of unknown function and date. The fragment consists of a point with a square base which appears to have been ripped from a ring; a section of the ring survives as a flat, rectangular flap attached at one corner to the point. The fragment has a dark green patina. It is 27.56mm in length, 19.52mm in width and 10.57mm at maximum thickness. It weighs 13.79g. This is clearly part of a larger object but, until parallels are found, the function and date of this fragment must remain uncertain. The fragment is reminiscent of Roman prick spurs such as HAMP-37F143 and WA…

Lead-alloy square component from unidentified object of probable post-medieval date, (c. 1500 - 1750 AD). The object is thick and square, with a D-shaped protrusion positioned to one side. The upper face has an incised circular motif. The bottom face has two ridges and a parallel irregular linear bump from casting, all three positioned evenly across the face; these suggest that this object is a component that was fixed to something else. The object is dark grey in colour. It is 22.41mm in length, 20.18mm in width and 8.59mm in thickness. It weighs 22.94g.

Incomplete copper-alloy object of uncertain function and date. The object is broadly T-shaped, with two arms at the top and a long body that turns downwards at an angle of approximately 40 degrees at the end. The body ends in a rounded, abraded break. The object bulges to the front and sides slightly, just above the broken end, probably in some sort of decorative rounded knob. The arms are broadly flat and rectangular but not identical. One terminates in a triangle that points upwards, while the other ends in a small rectangular protrusion below the arm. The ends of both arms seem to …

Unidentified fragment from lead object, possibly from a post-medieval toy (c. 1200 - 1700 AD). The fragment has a D-shaped frame formed from a straight bar and a curved bar, integrally cast. Both bars have a trapezoid section, with a wider bottom face and narrower top face. The straight bar is slightly wider and thicker than the curved bar. The top face is decorated by two parallel grooves, while the back face is completely flat. Copper-alloy fragment of an unidentified object, probably dating from the Roman to the medieval period (c. 43 - 1500 AD). The fragment is flat and largely lozenge-shaped, with two triangular 'fins' projecting from the widest point of the lozenge, one on either side. At one end of the lozenge there is a flat, rounded knob; at the other end is a slightly larger knob, the surface of which is angled so that is largely five-sided. The rough, light brown surface at the end of this knob suggests that it is at this point that the fragment broke from a larger object. The fragment is slightly c…

Fragment of a lead-alloy object of uncertain identity, of post-medieval to modern date (c. 1700 - 1930 AD), probably a toy model. The fragment appears to have slotted onto something. It is sub-triangular in shape, tapering from a relatively straight if slightly chipped and dented edge to the jagged edge where it has broken off. The front face is ornately decorated in moulded relief. A raised band runs transversally across the wider end of the fragment, decorated with two parallel transverse ridges with vertical ridges running between the two. Copper-alloy fragment of an unidentified object of uncertain date, probably medieval to post-medieval (c. 1000 - 1700 AD). The fragment consists of a broadly rectangular flat openwork panel. The bottom half of the panel is broadly H-shaped in form, while the other half is sub-square with three straight lines and a curved line; a further curved line runs diagonally across the centre of the square parallel to the outer curved line. Unidentified copper-alloy object, possibly a fitting or mount. Unfortunately it is not possible to assign a date range to this object that is any more precise than Iron Age - modern (c. 2350 BC - 1950 AD). The object is sub-rectangular and domed, with a transverse ridge at the mid-point of the front face and a further transverse ridge across one end of the same face. Copper-alloy fragment of unidentified object. The fragment consists of a curved flat copper-alloy bar with a roughly rectangular widened and thickened lip at one end. The lip is very worn and pitted. The fragment has a patchy green patina that has obscured the original surface. The fragment looks like it may have come from a large buckle frame of medieval or post-medieval date (c. 1100 - 1700 AD), but it is strange that the lip is so thick if indeed its true identification. Fragment of an unidentified copper-alloy object of possible Roman or early medieval date (c. 43 - 900 AD). The fragment is in the form of a copper-alloy bar, rectangular in plan and section, and notched down the edges to give the impression of conjoined squares. The top and bottom surfaces of the squares are decorated with a punched ring pattern. One of the squares has been perforated with a circular hole, possibly to provide some means of attachment. The hole is noticeably larger on the side that it has been drilled through from. One edge of the bar is jagged where it has been broken…
