It is in the form of a capital letter G in the Gothic type with a flared terminal. It has two circular cross sectioned rivets attached to the centre of its reverse and these have a spiralled incision to aid purchase and slightly flared ends. Lloyd De Beer has dated this item to the 14th or 15th century.

It has a patch of iron staining near one edge, where it also projects upwards the most. The opposite side of this also has a large patch of iron attached. The upper rounded surface appears to be decorated with incised curved lines, possibly concentric circles? Given its locaton the object could be of Roman date, but no pararllels have been identified.
