Early medieval iron shield boss, 21 mm wide, 117mm in diameter, 115mm deep and weighing 248 grams. The boss is circular in form and triangular in cross section. It has a small section of flat rim present at its base, which is 21 mm wide. Above this there is a straight sided section c.20mm high, which turns outwards to form a lipped projection. This forms the base of the cone. This tapers inwards and terminates with a short rod at its apex. This houses a sub-spherical projection with a flat circular base.
