A fragment of a cast copper alloy leg of a small skillet, broken off at the top and above the foot. with three moulded ribs running vertically down the face of the leg. Just before the lower break in the leg it begins to splay out to what would have been the foot. There is no collar above the foot. The leg is rectangular in plan, splaying out slightly at the bottom left hand corner, and plano-convex in section with a flat back. There is black organic material on the surface of the leg burnt on when it was near the fire. A simple leg of this type is illustrated by Butler & Green (2003)…

Cast copper alloy receptacle leg, probably from a skillet or posnet, missing its foot. The leg is straight-sided and semi-circular in section, with slightly champfered sides on the back and a central rib running the length of the leg on the outer face. The leg tapers slightly to the point at which it is broken just above the foot. The foot does not appear to have been everted, but there is a notch in the metal on one side of the leg just above the point where the foot would have met the leg. The central rib has traces of vertical lines down it like a combed decoration, defining the ed…

An incomplete leg of a cast copper alloy skillet. The fragment is broken at both ends, straight sided in plan, D-shaped in section with a flat back and rounded front face, with five evenly spaced rounded ribs running down its length. The leg would have originally then been everted into a claw foot with five claws for stability. Butler & Green (2003) illustrate similar ribbed straight-sided skillet legs on page 140, fig.142, dating from 1658-1661, assigned to the Westcountry because of the similarity of the skillets to the work of Thomas Sturton's foundry in South Petherton, Somerse…

The outer surface of the leg is is strongly moulded with a main central rib and a vertical groove and rounded flange on either side running down to a raised transverse collar separating the leg from the foot. The foot is in the form of a claw, also triangular in section, with five worn 'toes' on the front; it widens and projects slightly forward from the collar to the base. The back of the leg is flat and the underside of the foot is slightly rounded from wear. It is 48 mm tal…

Cast copper alloy receptacle foot, probably from a skillet or small vessel. The foot has broken off from the rest of the leg just above the collar, which remains. The foot is hoofed, triangular in section with one central rib which extends the base of the foot to a slight point. There are traces of two parallel engraved lines outlining the outward facing surface of the foot. The back of the foot is flat and chamfered outwards at the end to create a flat surface for the vessel to stand on. There are patches of black organic material on the front and base of the foot which would have be…
