The folowing report is from Martin Henig. "An attractive intaglio in a lower quality, base silver ring. The material of the stone is a non crystalline quartz, a chalcedony, with an upper blue layer and brownish ground, so it could be called a blue onyx or nicolo [ jewellery terms rather than scientific ones], the blue caused by staining/chemical treatment. The gem was cut with an outwardly bevelled edge. An incomplete cast copper-alloy cup-headed stud inlaid with green enamel. Sally Worrell has comented that such studs are late Iron Age or Early Roman, usually with either a blue or red enamel (see FAKL-FCD5C7). This example has a green enamel with no traces of blue or red. The head is cup-shaped and is roughly circular in plan. The diameter of the head is 14.44mm and the cup has a thickness of 5.57mm. On the under side of the cup is a truncated shank, 4.65mm diameter x 2.44mm long. Objects like this occur in Iron Age contexts with parallels from Dinorben, Abergele, Denb. (Savory 19…

The mount is circular with 4 small openwork sections, which give the object the form of a broad equal-armed cross sitting within a circle. A gold lock-ring and three small fragments of gold. The lock-ring is decorated with a series of incised concentric lines. One edge of the lock-ring is broken in a ragged edge, the other follows a neat line that may represent the original edge or a cut mark. A fragment of a copper-alloy harness fitting terret ring of late Iron Age to Roman date, c.100 BC - AD 100. The terret is a 'simple' type. All that remains is one section of the loop with a collar, and a small section of the sub oval strap bar.  The metal has a light green patina and is worn.
