A medieval cast lead-alloy spindle whorl. The weight is circular in plan, although chipped and abraded around the perimeter It is bi-conical in profile. The artefact is decorated by a single circle of pellets on each side, many of which have worn flat. Diameter 27.84mm; Diameter of central hole - 8.66mm; Thickness - 10.61mm; weight 32.57g

A cast copper-alloy Post Medieval cup weight, 28.84mm in diameter and weighing 26.72g. It is not possible to see if there are any markings on the inside bottom of the cup due to corrosion and/or extant residue. There is an incised double-banded linear decoration running around approximately 2/3 of the way up the interior of the surface. the wall thickness is 2.24mm; while the diameter at the botton of the wall is 20.60.mm This cup weight may have formed part of a nested set similar to an example from Salisbury (Saunders 2001; 130, fig. 43, ref: 28b), dated from the 13th century. …

A copper-alloy spectacle buckle, with pin. The frame has two oval loops which are convex in cross-section. one end has an incised notch which serves as a pin rest. The ends of each buckle are pointed. The strap bar has a triangular cross section. The frame features a knopps of each side of the projecting strap bar. A complete silver short-cross penny of Richard I. There are 7 pearls to the crown and the letter N is wide, the beard is made up of small pellets. There are two un-pelleted curls on the L and two or three on the R. Based on this the coin belongs to Richard I; North class 3ab2 or class 4a. The busts on these coins can be either large, small, wide or thin. Date is c.1190-1200. Moneyer and mint are WILLELM of London, though WILLELM can also be spelt as WILLEM on these coins due to the space taken up by the enlarged letter N and A. The coin has a weight of 1.04g and a diameter of 17.74mm

An incomplete copper-alloy medieval buckle that conforms well to a Meols type 10 c.AD 1350 - 1400. The pin is missing, leaving just the frame. The buckle is a single looped, oval with a narrowed and offset bar and ornate outer edges. Two prominent knops flank two grooves on the outer edge of the loop which act as rests for the pin. The buckle weighs 4.15g; is 20.27mm deep and 26.09mm wide.

Short cross coinage (1180-1247) 2017 T541 Netherwitton, North Northumberland I have examined a group of 73 coins reported found at Netherwitton, North Northumberland. The majority (63) are English silver pennies of the Short Cross type, with the obverse inscription of HENRICUS REX, i.e. King Henry, and a reverse inscription naming the moneyer and mint-place. A complete copper-alloy medieval (1200-1400) harness pendant. The object is square in plan - 20.59mm x 20.89mm - with an integral elongated lug, which is 9.36mm long, protruding from the centre of the upper edge. The lug tip has a circular perforation which is perpendicular to the pendant. The perforation is blocked with iron corrosion. The outer edge of the object is scalloped creating a square field in the centre. Within this square field there is a depiction of a castle. Description: Incomplete silver annular brooch of the Medieval period (1350-1400). The subcircular frame has a flattened, rectangular cross-section. The frame is undecorated on the reverse. A copper-alloy frame from a single-loop buckle of medieval date. For similar zoomorphic buckles, see PAS record no. BH-44C3D6, or Murawski 2003: 455, M12-0206; 456, M12-0207; 462, M12-0406. The suggested date range is 12th to 13th century. The frame takes the form of a three-dimensional animal, standing, its head at the top right hand corner of the frame, looking backwards over its shoulder.
