A complete Viking cast lead-alloy trade weight dating from the early medieval period - the 9th or 10th century. The weight comprises a cut fragment of ornamental cast copper alloy metalwork (possibly gilt) set into a lead base. The item appears complete. It is of flat cubic shape with the ornamental copper alloy inset covering all of the upper surface. The decoration of the copper alloy piece is simple: a small square surrounded by four L-shapes with arms of equal length. A cast copper-alloy Post Medieval cup weight, 28.84mm in diameter and weighing 26.72g. It is not possible to see if there are any markings on the inside bottom of the cup due to corrosion and/or extant residue. There is an incised double-banded linear decoration running around approximately 2/3 of the way up the interior of the surface. the wall thickness is 2.24mm; while the diameter at the botton of the wall is 20.60.mm This cup weight may have formed part of a nested set similar to an example from Salisbury (Saunders 2001; 130, fig. 43, ref: 28b), dated from the 13th century. …
