An incomplete cast lead-alloy steelyard weight dating to the Roman period (AD 43-410). The weight is roughly bi-conical in form consisting of two unequally sized upper and lower hemispheres with a rounded circumferential ridge between them. A copper alloy band of 4mm width surrounds the circumference. The bottom section is smaller, and the base has been flattened either during production or at a later date. A complete opaque globular annular glass bead of unknown date, Bronze Age to Modern, about 2200 BC to AD 1900, but most likely to be Roman or Early Medieval. The bead is made out of opaque light-blue glass. It is circular in shape, with convex sides, and the ends slightly flattened. It is annular and uneven, thicker at one side than the other. Massive terret ring made from cast cu-alloy, with an incomplete projection of a twin spur (lipped projection) within the ring. It would also have had a strap bar concealed at the base. Most known examples come from northern England and Scotland with an emphasis in Aberdeenshire. There are also examples from North Wales. It's very close to an example from Chesters, Northumberland in Jope 2000, 309, 291e and MacGregor 1976, 113. Generally dating from late 1st-mid 3rd century AD. The material of the stone is a non crystalline quartz, a chalcedony, with an upper blue layer and brownish ground, so it could be called a blue onyx or nicolo [ jewellery terms rather than scientific ones], the blue caused by staining/chemical treatment. The lead sheet is sub-rectaungular in plan and weighs 70.50g; is 56.23mm long; and has a maximum width of 34.07mm and a minimum width of 26.22mm. It is 4.91mm thick. A fragment of a copper-alloy Trumpet brooch of Roman date, c. AD 75 - 175. The head is ovate with a double lug hinge mechanism to the reverse. The pin no longer remains. A D-sectioned bow extends from the front of the head but is much truncateed. The patina is a dark green. Cast copper alloy fragment of a sword belt fitting dating from the 16-17th centuries. This would have been one of 3 pieces hanging from the main fitting. It is foliate in design and has broken before the end. The end that is missing would have been a hook to attach it to the main fitting. There is a small circular perforation at the un-broken end in which the remains of an iton rivet sit. A similar mount is illustrated in Brian Read (page no. 39, No. 373)

A copper-alloy spectacle buckle, with pin. The frame has two oval loops which are convex in cross-section. one end has an incised notch which serves as a pin rest. There are two un-pelleted curls on the L and two or three on the R. Based on this the coin belongs to Richard I; North class 3ab2 or class 4a. An incomplete copper-alloy medieval buckle that conforms well to a Meols type 10 c.AD 1350 - 1400. The pin is missing, leaving just the frame. The buckle is a single looped, oval with a narrowed and offset bar and ornate outer edges. Two prominent knops flank two grooves on the outer edge of the loop which act as rests for the pin. The buckle weighs 4.15g; is 20.27mm deep and 26.09mm wide.
