A fragment (approximately one third) of a silver penny of Edward the Confessor (1042-66), 'Expanding Cross', light coinage (North 822), moneyer: Authgrimr (Othgrim; OÐGRIM), mint: Lincoln. Ref: North 1994: 180. The damage to the coin appears to have occurred post deposition as the breaks are not as clean as might be expected from a deliberate cut.

Silver Ingot  Although ingots are traditionally difficult to date without a secure archaeological context they are often attributed a Viking date. Ingots of similar overall shape are typical of the Viking period and are commonly found in Scandinavia, on the Continent, and within Britain where they generally date from the late 9th/10th century. Rounded edges are typical for Viking ingots although there is huge variation in the shape of Viking ingots, particularly as hammering can alter the form (Kruse and Graham-Campbell, 2011, pp.73-75). If the nick on the edge of …

A complete Viking cast lead-alloy trade weight dating from the early medieval period - the 9th or 10th century. The weight comprises a cut fragment of ornamental cast copper alloy metalwork (possibly gilt) set into a lead base. The item appears complete. It is of flat cubic shape with the ornamental copper alloy inset covering all of the upper surface. The decoration of the copper alloy piece is simple: a small square surrounded by four L-shapes with arms of equal length. The interior of the smaller geometrical shapes is scratched/roughened up, possibly to receive and hold enamel. …

Description: Silver band-shaped finger-ring, with a large flat ovoid bezel, continuing as a tapering flat on either side of the centre, reducing to narrow, round wires at either end. These are looped around each other in short spirals to close the ring, and would originally have given some adjustability of size. Both the bezel and the tapering flanks are decorated with an unevenly repeated pattern of small circular punch-marks. A single line of these down the centre of the bezel is impressed more deeply. The ring is slightly flattened rather than completely round, and wider from side t…

Head of a copper alloy 8th- or 9th-century Anglo-Saxon disc-headed pin, probably part of a triple linked pin set. The head and part of the shaft survive in fairly good condition. The head is circular and flat with decoration on one face, and has two holes, one on each side at 90 degrees between the top of the circle and the drop of the shaft. If the shaft emerges at 6 o'clock, the hole at 9 o'clock is now incomplete. Surviving width 26mm, surviving length 39mm. The object dates to c.AD 700-900. The decoration consists of a cross with narrow arms, defined by an incised line at each…
