A complete copper alloy post-medieval (AD c.1500-c.1550) hooked clasp of one piece. The clasp falls into Read's Class E, Type 3: circular single sharp-hooked clasps. A similar hooked clasp can be found in Read, 2008, Hooked-Clasps & Eyes, p.91, no.319. Overall, it measures 33.55mm long, 13.76mm wide and 1.89mm thick. It weighs 1.96g. The clasp was cast in one piece and consists of a trapezoidal loop, a central circular plate and a hook. A copper alloy contemporary copy of an as of Caligula (AD 37-41) (Reece Period 1), struck in honour of Marcus Agrippa (died 12 BC), S C, Neptune standing left. Prototype Mint of Rome - RIC I, p. 112, no. 58. For a copy, see Boon, Counterfeit Coins in Roman Britain, plate III, no. 36. A number of these copies have been found recently on the excavations at the Bloomberg Site in London (Julian Bowsher, pers. comm.). The coin appears to have been serrated which is a phenomenon noted by Dr Philippa Walton has noted on coins from Piercebridge.
