An incomplete copper alloy Roman Colchester one-piece brooch dating to the period c. AD20 - 100. The pin, spring, part of the head, lower section of bow and the catchplate are missing. The brooch measures 36.44mm in length, 7.66mm maximum width, 4.24mm minimum width, is 3.04mm thick and weighs 3.58g. The head exhibits the wings rectangular in cross section, measuring 3.9 wide 2.43 high and 1.87mm thick. A gold Iron Age stater of Catti of the Dobunni tribe dating to c. AD 1 - 20. Obverse depicts the Tree of Life and the reverse depicts triple tailed horse above a wheel. The inscription 'CATTI' is visible on the reverse. The Dobunni were an Iron Age tribe with a range of rulers. Often rulers had similar coins but changed specific details. The details changed include: shape of the horse's head; the obverse type; the number of pellets surrounding the horse; the inscription above the horse.
