An incomplete cast copper alloy socketed axehead of late Bronze Age to early Iron Age date. (c 1100 - 600 BC) The blade, cutting edge and part of the body survive. The blade is a shallow crescent slightly flared from the body, the socket is rectangular, and the body walls are thin cast (1.8 mm). The side view shows a wedge-shaped profile with a casting seam. There is a blunt projecting spur on one side 55 mm from the blade; this could be an abraded stump of a loop or casting flash. A body sherd of a Roman terra sigillata (probably samian ware) vessel, c. AD 43 - 200. Smooth, uniform orange-pink fabric with glossy surface slip. The fragment appears undecorated and is abraded. It is flat and roughly triangular in shape, all edges are abraded and appear to represent old breaks: it is not possible to extrapolate the size or shape of the original vessel. A ceramic fragment, possibly a medieval tile (c AD 1200 - 1500), with an elliptical lead inlay. The inlay is 20.3 mm long, 14.3 mm wide and c. 6 mm thick. The exposed surface of the lead is flat and undecorated. There is a rim of darker material around part of the edge of the lead. This rim is irregular, varying from 0.8 mm to 2.7 mm wide. The fabric of the ceramic is orange-red with sparse, small pale inclusions and a few large voids. The purpose of this object is unknown, it is possible it was used as a mould. An incomplete copper alloy anthropomorphic mount of medieval date (c 14th -15th century). The mount is abraded, and is in the form of a bearded, crowned head facing, in the style of contemporary coin portraits. The crown has three projections. The rear has a single, central, circular attachment rivet, 3 mm diameter, surrounded by corrosion product. A similar object is illustrated in Read (2001, fig 11, no. 137). An incomplete cast copper alloy stirrup strap mount of Anglo-Scandinavian date, c AD 1050 -1125. Corresponding to Williams (1997) Class A, Type 11. The mount is broadly triangular in plan, the upper part seems to terminate in an irregular edge, probably an abraded break, the suspension lug is missing. An incomplete copper alloy brooch of Roman date (c. AD 75 - 175). The brooch is a Colchester derivative, Polden Hill type, cf Hattatt (2000, p. 300, fig 159, no. 380). The catchplate, pin and spring mechanism are missing. Probably from an early form posnet, cf. fig 1, Butler, Green and Payne (2009). The edge of the foot is chipped, giving the appearance of two toes, but it is likely this does not represent any original feature, and the foot had a simple straight edge. It has an open work design of floriate lobes, much corroded and bent. surmounting this design is a 13.5 mm diameter fleuret; a disc surrounded by pellets. The rear face is undecorated, with a pointed shank, 2.1 mm diameter, emerging from the centre of the fleuret disc. This shank is bent through 90 degrees, and is 9 mm in length.
