An incomplete copper alloy Medallion of Pos-Medieval date (AD 1739-1740). The object commemorated the capture of Portobello by Admiral Vernon on the 22nd November in 1739.
The metal is dark green in colour with a corroded patina and areas of the outeredge missing.
Obverse: THE BRITISH GLORY REVIV'D BY ADMIRAL VERNON / Admiral with a staff facing left
Reverse: HE TOOK PORTO BELLO WITH SIX SHIPS ONLY / BY COURAGE AND CONDUCT / Ships and a harbour
