An incomplete copper alloy Colchester derivative, Polden Hill brooch c. f. Mackreth 2011, Chapter 3, Part 3. Group 4a or 4b. The foot, catch plate, pin and the ends of the wings are missing, presumably lost in antiquity. In plan, the brooch is almost T-shaped. The bow head is hump-like, and angular (comma shaped) in profile, with near-cylindrical wings (the back of the wings is flat) projecting from either side at the top. A complete copper alloy buckle, probably from a spur, dating perhaps to the 11th to 13th centuries AD. The buckle has a triangular or trapezoidal frame, D-shaped in cross-section with a flat reverse. This fits with Early Bronze Age (EBA phase II / III), of metalworking stage IV-VI, which corresponds to Needham's (1996) Period 2-3 circa 2250 - 1900 CAL. BC.
