A complete gold signet finger ring of the Post Medieval period, probably dating from c. AD 1500 - c. AD 1700. The ring is broadly circular in plan and D shaped in section. There is an oval bezel at the top that is raised slightly. The bezel has been decorated with an incised cipher depicting the letters 'AV' that are interlocked. The bezel is an undecorated broadly D-shaped dome with D-shaped cross-section. The light weight of the ring suggests that the bezel is hollow. The inner edge of the bezel is warped, possibly as a result of post-depositional damage or a flaw during the making process.
