Only one disc remains, the other three and connecting strips are missing presumed lost in antiquity. An incomplete lead or lead alloy four part cloth seal of the Post Medieval period, dating from AD 1665.
The object is incomplete, only the two inner discs and the strip remain. The outer discs are missing, presumed lost in antiquity. The object comprises of two broadly circular discs with a rectangular strip between the two. The strip has been folded almost completely in half. The discs each show evidence of old breaks at one end of each, this would be where the two outer discs would have been. An incomplete lead or lead alloy cloth seal of the Post Medieval period, dating from c. AD 1540 - c. AD 1700.
The seal is broadly circular in plan and rectangular in section. The seal is made of two discs connected with a strip. One disc has a rivet which protrudes through the hole in the other rivet. There is a traingular projection from the bottom of the object on the reverse, this would have been the connecting strip, the end of the strip is bent into a hook which points away from the object, The strip has been broken, presumed in antiquity. The piece, which represents the upper half of a single disc, bears the relief-moulded image of a female figure, probably an angel, who stands facing forwards and has spread wings, the top of which are visible.. The legend 'GLORIA [IN EXCHELSIS] extends clockwise around the circumference, starting at 2 o'clock. There is a raised border around the edge with a possible fish at the initial mark.
