A complete lead or lead alloy Spindle whorl of the probably the Medieval period, dating from c. AD 1100 - c. AD 1500. The whorl is circular in plan and conical in profile. There is a circular perforation cast slightly off centre (this measures 10.3mm in diameter). The object appears to have been decorated with an apparently random linear pattern of lines and ridges interspersed with raised dots or pellets. The base of the object is flat. Thickness 13.7mm. Diameter 30.2mm. Weight 33.02 grams. Spindle whorls, as an artefact type, can be hard to date accurately as they remained …
