An incomplete silver groat of Elizabeth I (AD 1558 to AD 1603), probably dating to the period AD 1558 to AD 1561, issued as part of the first coinage issue. Minted at the Tower (London). Initial marks unclear. Probably North vol II, p133, no 1986. Length: 23.4 mm Width: 18.1 mm Thickness: 0.6 mm Weight: 1.2 g Coin is poor quality, it is coated with a brown coloured patina. Much of the detail is obscurred. It is possible, given the poor quality of the silver, this coin could be a contemporary copy.
