Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A heat damaged fragment of a Neolithic polished flint axehead, probably dating to c. 4000-2400. The surviving fragment is sub-trapezoidal in plan and, although now slightly irregular, was liekly originally pointed oval in cross section. At both ends it temrinates in an irregualr break showing clear evidence of heat-fracturing. Clear striations from polishing survive on both faces of the axehead, cut by a number of small removals which appear to relate to damage rather than reuse or adaption of the tool. The flint varies in colour from translucent glassy brown to an opaque pale grey.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A horseshoe shaped flint scraper of probable Neolithic date, c. 2500-1600. A large oval shaped tertiary flake which has been worked unifacially. At the proximal end of the ventral face the striking platform and a large bulb of purcussion survive, with a bulbar scar. This face is unworked. On the dorsal face are two large removal scars. The first covers most of the dorsal face and the angle of the rippling suggests that it was struck from around 5 o'clock. The second is smaller, and was struck from the surviving striking platform on the proximal end, it cuts through the larger scar and…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Gloucestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A small, damaged fragment of worked flint, at the distal end is a clean, unworked break, whilst the proximal end has been worked into a curve. The flint is a fairly consistent pale, translucent brown colour, with a patch of grey patina at the proximal end of the dorsal face.
The bulb of percussion is present on ventral face, at the very tip of the proximal end, although the striking platform itself has been worked away. There is very little retouch on this face, except for a tiny section to on the right mesial edge at the proximal end, just right of the bulb of percussion, this ret…

Object type: END SCRAPER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Gloucestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Flint end scraper, possibly of the Neolithic period. One ridge on dorsal surface, positioned just to the left of the centre. There is semi-abrupt, scaled, direct retouch, starting on the left mesial side curving around the distal end and then continuing down the right mesial side stopping at the proximal end, creating a long, curved work surface. The dorsal surface at the proximal end appears to have been damaged. The bulb of percussion survives on the proximal end of the ventral surface, although the striking platform is not present. There is a very slight amount of inverse retouch o…
