A Medieval copper alloy annular buckle, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1500. The buckle consists of an undecorated sub-circular frame, with copper alloy pin surviving in situ. c. 26mm in diameter. The lack of constriction means that the artefact is classed as a buckle, rather than an annular brooch, although the distinction is slightly arbitrary. It can be compared to numerous examples excavated from Late Medieval contexts in London (Egan & Pritchard 2002: 57ff).

A Medieval copper alloy buckle probably dating to c. AD 1200-1500. The buckle is of an unusual construction and does not conform to the usual typologies of cast Medieval buckle frames. The buckle frame is sub oval with an offset bar; the frame has been constructed by bending a strip of copper alloy into shape with a notch cut as a rest for a pin. The bar consists of a separate sub-rectangular sectioned spindle. A rectangular plate survives, this is folded around the bar and is recessed at the edges to accommodate the frame, and a rectangular slot for the pin. The latter does not survi…
