Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Middle to Late Bronze age penannular ring, consisting of gold sheet wrapped around a copper alloy core, with corrosion products from this core now expanding through the gold sheet and visible through tears. The ring itself is oval in cross section and the gold sheet is inlaid with circumferential bands of silver or electrum wire.

Object type: CORE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Wiltshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A probable Bronze Age flint core, probably dating to c. 2400-800 BC. The core is sub-rectangular in plan and C-shaped in cross section, due to an incomplete cylindrical fossil running longitudinally along the ventral face. This void retains cortex, but is flanked by patinated facets; neither displays conchoidal ripples and may be natural. The dorsal face exhibits removal scars from multiple sub-parallel blade-like removals, struck from both platforms, but in two groups separated by an area with surviving cortex. The facets at the top and bottom of the core fragment are patinated, more…

Description: A Middle Bronze Age gold composite penannular ring, possibly incomplete, probably dating to c. 1300-1150 BC. The object consists of two concavo-convex bands of gold sheet which appear to have been soldered together and curved around to form a loop, the latter left open.
Dimensions: diameter 13.9mm; width 7.9mm; thickness 2.3mm; weight 3.26g.
Discussion: Comparison to other artefacts of the same type would suggest that the present artefact formed the outer cover for a base metal or organic core, along with an inner gold sheet, cf. YORYM-06C5C1, BERK-E2ED60, NMS-ACBFA4 on …

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of a Middle or late Bronze Age copper alloy spear head, probably dating to c. 1550-800 BC. The surviving fragment comprises of the mid-rib, circular in cross section and tapering from the top of the socket to the point, which is lost to abrasion. Vestigial remains of highly abraded wings project from either side of the rib.
Dimensions: length 34.5mm; width 14.4mm; thickness 9.7mm; weight 12.20g.
The presence of a midrib would suggest a date in the Middle or Late Bronze Age (Davis 2016; 2017).

A flint scraper and retouched incomplete flint flake of probable later Prehistoric date.
1. A large, sub-rectangular tertiary flake of beige-brown flint mottled with areas of sandy, cortex-like inclusions. The dorsal face exhibits a number of irregularly sized removals, all probably from the same platform as the overall removal, some abrasion along the dorsal end of the striking platform would suggest the use of platform preparation. The bulb of percussion is relatively diffuse, allthough this is likely down to the nature of the raw material, and is unscarred. The flakes represent a number of flint sources, and are a mix of tertiary and secondary flakes, although where it survives the area still covered by cortex is invariably small. The proximal end survives on three flakes, these all have relatively diffuse bulbs of percussion, only one exhibiting a bulbar scar and with one exhibtiign a slight 'lip' at the platform, suggesting the use of a soft hammer. One flake exhibits platform preparation, and clear evidence of multiple striking platforms. The flakes exhibit a mixture of sub-parallel …

1. A thumbnail scraper worked from a reused primary or secondary flake of grey-brown flint; cortex covers those areas of the dorsal face which do not exhibit retouch, c. 60%. The flake has no clear point or bulb of percussion, with one facet of the dorsal face at the proximal end and the ventral face much more heavily patinated, suggesting the reuse of an older tool. A single flake of knapped flint of uncertain date. A secondary flake of mottled grey flint, with two small areas of surviving sandy, beige cortex at the proximal and distal ends, covering c. 15-20%. The striking platform is no longer present, although there is the suggestion of a large bulb of percussion. Sub-parallel removal scars are present on the dorsal face, struck from the same direction as the overall removal. In addition, struck from around 45 degrees to the others and cutting through the cortex, are three, small, parallel low angle removal scars, with this edge shows signs of…
