An incomplete, heavily worn and modified copper-alloy sheet metal early-medieval strap end of Thomas classification Class A, Type 2. Dating roughly to the 9th-early 10th century. Description: The strap end was solidly cast with a splt end for the attachment end of the fitting. It survives with very slightly tapering strap-end which finish in a blunt nosed base. A complete decorated two piece sheet copper-alloy Medieval strap-end dated c.1350-1450 AD. Description: The plate is sub-rectangular in plan, tapering towards the terminal end which finishes in a blunt point. The top plate has a rivet at each end riveting it to the back plate. There is a decorative border formed from two incised lines with two parralel short panels of decoration near the terminal. Description: The strap-end has slightly convex sides, the terminal is missing and the split end is damaged, with one of two rivet holes preserved and the other broken halfway across its diameter. Below the rivets is a moulded ‘trilobate palmette’ motif.
