Late Bronze Age socketed axe fragment of uncertain type
The axe fragment is a mouth fragment, probably from the unlooped side (with a surviving length of 35.4mm, a surviving width of 28.6mm, a surviving depth of 9.0mm and a weight of 19.0g). The top of the mouth (with a thickness of 5.4mm - 6.0mm) is corroded but a raised area is likely to represent the casting runner stub. The casting seam is evident running down the middle part of the side, from the runner stub and appears to have been prominent, possibly with minimal finishing. There is a weak collar discernible on the side (wit…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Medieval copper alloy seal matrix of 13th or 14th century date
The seal matrix is near-complete, with some peripheral damage and had a circular die (of 18.9mm diameter) with an hexagonally faceted handle and triangular or trefoil loop (with an overall length of 21.5mm and a weight of 7.2g). The loop (11.0mm wide and with internal dimensions of 5.2mm x 4.5mm) is of sub-triangular section. The seal die is corroded and has lost some of the encircling legend. At the centre is a shield containing three diagonal grooves (three bends) and there is a six-pointed star (mullet) in the top ri…

Medieval lead seal matrix of 12th or 13th century date
The matrix is of pointed-oval form and is near-complete but is distorted (with a distorted length of 41.6mm, a width of 26.0mm, a thickness of 2.7mm - 3.7mm and a weight of 18.3g). The rear has a lug at its apex, (giving a maximum surviving depth of 8.6mm), which does not appear to be perforated and may have broken before the perforation. There is no suggestion of a rib or similar, descending from the lug. The seal die moderately clear and has a comparatively crude inscription. The central device is geometric, comprising thre…

Prehistoric flint knife, probably of Neolithic date
The knife is of sub-triangular form and is incomplete, missing part of the retouched edge (with a length of 47.5mm, a width of 36.4mm, a thickness of 10.7mm and a weight of 16.8g). The retouch was confined to one edge and only survives on the distal end, abutting the cortex. The opposite edge may have been deliberately backed. Cortex is present on the distal side and there is a recessed flaw on the ventral surface. The flint has light patination.

Bronze Age bronze butt fragment from an axe of uncertain type but of Developed Axe or Palstave form
The axe is represented by a butt fragment only, broken at one end (with a surviving length of 32.4mm and a weight of 28.4g). The butt end is rounded but may be truncated and thins to an edge (with a width of 19.5mm and a thickness of 0.8mm). The sides are straight and slightly divergent to the break (with a maximum width of 21.9mm and a thickness of 7.7mm). The sides are convex across their thicknesses with the suggestion of a casting seam on the pitted surface. The flanges begin near t…

The fragmentary object comprises a cast convex circular head (of 15.5mm diameter, a depth of 9.7mm and with a weight of 10.9g) and an integral rectangular-sectioned shank (5.9mm x 4.3mm), projecting from the rim of the head. The head is hollowed on the underside (with a depth of 2.6mm) and is as-cast. The shank has a near-perpendicular turn and has broken immediately after the bend (with rise above the head of 5.8mm). There is no applied decoration evident on the …
