The reported object is a silver signet ring, now incomplete (part of hoop missing). It has a flat, circular bezel for the matrix, which has the form of a round-petalled quatrefoil within pellets in the inter-leaf spaces, within a single circular rope border. The shoulders are demarcated by simple transverse grooves, and the upper part of the hoop is decorated with triple vertical ridges and a random and unevenly punched pattern of open circles, presumably intended to represent pellets/pearls. A transverse groove and two hatched dashes below this indicate a change in the lower hoop dec…

Internal hoop diameter 17.6mm; band width 3.8mm; band thickness 0.6mm; weight 1.76g. The ring has not undergone any cleaning or conservation. The form of the ring is similar to that of some fifteenth-century gold posy rings which have pelleted bands enclosing mottoes or poesies (such as a ring from Chinnor, Oxfordshire ref. no. 2010T660). A similar band style, with raised mid spine, occurs on a late medieval gold decorative ring found at Jordanstown, …

The two coins are in fairly fresh condition and likely to have been deposited within a few years of going into circulation. The latest coins in the group (nos 11-14) all belong to the early years of Henry VIII's second coinage, struck between 1526 and 1529, giving a consistent terminus in the late 1520s. The combined weight of this component of the hoard amounts to 115.09g, representing some 90% per cent of the total surviving weight of the hoard (127.77g). This points to a primary purpose of silver storage.
