Roman copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 5, flat wing ends type, Western Group), c.f. Mackreth 2011, 5.c. Plate 50. The brooch is complete but has a distorted bow (with a distorted length of 35.0mm, a depth of 16.6mm and a weight of 9.7g). Roman copper alloy bow brooch of T-shaped brooch of developed type and of 2nd century AD date
The brooch is incomplete, missing the leg and much of the pin (with a surviving length of 32.3mm, a surviving depth of 11.6mm and a weight of 4.9g). The pin is hinged within tubular wings (with a width of 25.2mm and a diameter of 4.2mm), the terminals are enhanced with pairs of vertical grooves, defining an adjacent rib. Roman copper alloy brooch of Colchester dervative, Harlow type of 1st century AD date (60-65). Of The West of England Group.
The brooch is fragmentary, represented by the head only (with a surviving length of 10.6mm. a surviving depth of 17.6mm and a weight of 6.6g). The missing spring was secured by a central lug with two perforations to accommodate the axis bar and tension the chord.
