A complete cast lead alloy late medieval pilgrim badge depicting Saint Giles, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1300. The badge consists of a rectangular plate with a sub-circular sewing loop projecting from each corner. A further large sub-circular projection at one short end accomodates the halo'd head of the saint, who is depicted standing, bearded and tonsured with his head within a beaded halo. An incomplete post medieval cast lead alloy powder charger cap, of 17th century date. The cap is very worn and has been squashed flat, but was originally a sub-circular cup shape, with a flat base and slightly flaring sides. The integral suspension loops are missing. The suspension loops would have been used to secure the cap to both a gunpowder flask and a bandolier, via a looped cord (Courtenay, 1988, FRG Datasheet 11).
