A complete Post Medieval cast copper alloy trade weight, dating to between AD 1714 and AD 1760. The weight is circular in plan. The item's weight (0.484oz), suggests it was used as a half-ounce weight. The front face is recessed below a raised rim, and has three stamps; Crown over 'G' - the royal cypher, the sword of St Paul - the City of London Guildhall mark, and an ewer - The London Founders' Company mark. The relative positions of the stamps indicate it could have been made during the reigns of George I or George II (Read, 1995). The surfaces are worn and have a dark green patina.…

An incomplete post medieval cast lead alloy powder charger cap, of 17th century date. The cap is very worn and has been squashed flat, but was originally a sub-circular cup shape, with a flat base and slightly flaring sides. The integral suspension loops are missing. The suspension loops would have been used to secure the cap to both a gunpowder flask and a bandolier, via a looped cord (Courtenay, 1988, FRG Datasheet 11). The surface of the cap is plain and undecorated, with areas of light brown patina. Lead caps of this type are often found on English Civil War battle sites. Similar …

While many similar examples of lead spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dating from the Roman period to the Post-Medieval period, the use of lead for their manufacture may have increased during the late 14th century to cope with thick…
