A post medieval (c.1500-1600) iron rotary key with kidney-shaped bow. The bow measures 30.7mm by 17.4mm and has a sub-circular projection coming from the stem. The stem is circular and hollow in cross-section. The stem is 36.4mm in length, and is 8.9mm thick. The bit is rectangular in shape and has a rectangular notch on the inside edge. There are three projections from the lower edge of the bit, these are worn and are a sub triangular shape. The key is corroded and is a dark orangey brown colour. The bit measures 15.2mm by 11.2mm. A complete post-medieval copper-alloy casket key. The key has a kidney shaped bow with two internal projections at the stem end. On the shoulders underneath the bow there are three decorative collars which are worn. The stem extends to a projecting pin below the bit which is narrow, rectangular and uncut. The key is a dark brown colour with patches of green and pink corrosion. The key measures 31.1mm in total length. The bow measures 15.7mm by 11.1mm. The bit measures 4.8mm by 7.1mm. A medieval copper alloy casket key. The key has a solid stem of oval cross section with a hollow end - the end is now blocked with dirt. The width of the stem is 5.95mm. The bow is circular in shape with a circular perforation (exterior diameter: 14.90mm, interior diameter: 6.68mm). The bit is rectangular in shape with a rectangular cleft on opposing sides creating four wards.The bit measures 5.34mm by 7.59mm. One cleft is off centre. The length of the key is 35.61mm. These types of keys date from the late 12th century to the late 14th century (Egan, 1998, p. 111).
