A post medieval silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603). Second coinage (North 1997). Initial mark Pheon, dated 1565. Mint of London ( North 1991, 134). The bust is worn almost smooth, while the legend remains legible. There are two parallel crease marks evenly placed (each is 1/3 the way in from the edge) from 1 o clock to 7 o clock on the obverse making an S shape. They are similar to those made on love tokens. Weight: 2.9 Diameter: 25.6mm

Obverse type depicting laureate and draped bust facing right, and C mint mark, (Chester), reverse type depicting cruciform shields with a later harp and shields topped with large crowns. The date is worn away, but it was probably minted 1695 - 1699. The coin is complete but is worn. Both obverse and reverse show signs of damage, probably caused by agricultural machinery. Spink 2013: 3520 - 3547 Size 20.3 mm diameter and weighs 2.5 gms
