Object type: HARNESS FITTING
Broad period: EARLY MEDIEVAL
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A corroded copper-alloy object, probably a terminal from an Early Medieval strap distributor or harness link, dating to c.AD 1000-1100. It consists of a sub-rectangular shaped terminal, with a central circular perforation (9.0mm in diameter). The terminal has the remnants of four rounded knops on the four outer points. An arm would have led from one of these knops, but the object is too corroded to determine which one. Length: 20.00mm. Width: 19.8mm. Thickness: 4.2mm (max). Weight: 2.82g.
