Worn and fragmentary silver post-medieval Charles I shilling, dating within the period 1625 - 1649 AD. Both sides of the coin are completely worn. The coin is 16.5mm in diameter, 0.6mm in thickness and weighs 0.24g.

Silver shilling of Charles I group F. The bust is the sixth Briot style bust, with a widespread double arched crown and a collar with a large stellate lace border. The value of XII is to the R of the bust the MM is a triangle in a circle and dates to 1641-43. As the bust is of good workmanship it is possible that this coin was minted at the tower prior to the outbreak of the civil war in 1642.
