Object type: TOKEN
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A cast lead alloy Medieval or Post Medieval token, probably uniface, in poor condition, c. 1200-1800 AD. Probably Powell Type 30. The token is flat and generally oval in shape. It seems to have been decorated with only a simplistic raised line running through the centre on one side and perhaps a pellet. The other face has three incised lines on the surface, but this seems to be due to damage, not purposeful decoration. It measures 27.45 mm long, 23.06 mm wide, 3.03 mm thick and weighs 10.73 grams.

Object type: TOKEN
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A complete Post Medieval cast lead alloy circular unifaced token. Powell Type 2. On one side are the raised initials JS together with a central raised pellet and a further raised pellet after the inital S. The other side is blank. The token measures 16.1mm in diameter, 2.18mm thick and weighs 3.61grams. Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore hard to date precisely. Those with intials are thought to be Post Medieval in date, c. 1550-1800 AD.
